Against Newcastle, Foden continued to find himself free in pockets of space in central areas, before receiving the ball and allowing City to hit the Magpies in an attacking situation similar to a counter-attack.
The speed of the Sky Blues’ attacks often increased from zero to 100 due to the five-time Premier League winner’s ability to get on the ball and drive at Newcastle’s defence.
However, Foden’s technical brilliance allowed him to be such a threat, every time the likes of Rodri or Mateo Kovacic, for instance, broke the lines.
Newcastle’s high-press continued to be exploited during the first half an hour of the clash, as Phil Foden found space behind their midfield on several occasions and kickstarted the visitors’ attacks due to his technical and spatial intelligence.
