Manchester City may well be in for a busy few days in the transfer market.

The club are normally quite quiet in the final week of transfer windows, with the club tending to get business done early.

But this has been an unusual window for City, and fans might be able to expect some activity in the coming days up until the deadline.

Some are holding out hope that one more new face will come in to replace Julian Alvarez more directly, and to ease the burden and workload on Erling Haaland.

We will see what the next days bring, but one man who could be on his way out is Matheus Nunes.

The midfielder is a target for Atletico Madrid at the moment. However, the Portugal international is not so keen to move as things currently stand.

Nunes joined City on transfer deadline day last summer in a £53 million move from Wolves.

It was a move that raised eyebrows, with some unsure as to why he was brought in following the arrival of Mateo Kovacic, who is arguably a very similar player.

Those people who questioned the move are not really any closer to finding an answer, with Nunes struggling for starts last season.

The former Sporting CP dynamo just hasn’t been able to get into the side and stay there. There have been flashes of his quality, but the jury is very much still out on him for many.

Nunes is now a target for Atleti.

But Give Me Sport have claimed that Nunes is ‘fully focused’ on staying at the Etihad Stadium and making his time at the club a success.

He doesn’t want to leave, nor does Pep Guardiola want to force him out.

Nunes could do with a loan

It hasn’t worked out at City so far for Nunes, and it is difficult to see where his minutes will come from this season.

Kalvin Phillips may have left the club. But he’s still got Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, Mateo Kovacic and new signing Ilkay Gundogan for competition.

There’s also the likes of John Stones and Rico Lewis who can both play in midfield.

It will be really interesting to see if his stance changes in the coming days.

It would potentially be a bit of a risk from City to sanction a loan move, but one that is probably worth taking given the versatility of other players in the squad.
