Manchester City returned to action on Wednesday as they took on Celtic in their first pre-season friendly and here is how you can watch the highlights.

It feels like hardly any time at all since Manchester City’s season ended in disappointment with the FA Cup final defeat to Manchester United.

Yet, with Euro 2024 and Copa America now in the rearview mirror, all eyes are on the upcoming season as Pep Guardiola’s side returned to the field in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

City have ventured to the United States for their pre-season tour and played the first of four friendlies against Scottish giants Celtic on Wednesday, losing 4-3.

A very youthful squad has made the trip with only a couple of senior pros available but there were still strong performances from Oscar Bobb and Jack Grealish.

Here is everything you need to know about the game.

Man City 3-4 Celtic report

City lost their first match back but there were still some promising performances.

Celtic rushed into a 1-0 lead through Nicolas-Gerrit Kuhn in the 13th minute but equalised after Oscar Bobb managed to squirm the ball home following a fine move.

Kuhn would score again and Kyogo Furuhashi made it 3-1 before the break in the torrential North Carolina rain.

Yet, Bobb continued to shine as his mazy run into the box allowed him to tee up Maximo Perrone to score before he assisted yet again with a fine cross for compatriot Erling Haaland to nod home.

Celtic managed to find a winner through Luis Palma but Bobb’s stock has never been higher.

What Pep Guardiola said

Speaking after the match, Guardiola gave his verdict: “Many good things from the new and old players [vs Celtic].

“It wasn’t easy, we have senior players up front and back four eight or nine so young.

It’s difficult in one department when so many are young but many good things, Oscar and Rico always high level.

“Many things I saw were nice. We created chances, but they are so good with the pace and quality they have. You have to live these situations in pre-season and we’ll do it from here.”
