Pundit Danny Murphy has heaped praise on Manchester City striker Erling Haaland for how he came across in his press conference on Tuesday.

Haaland spoke to the media ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash with FC Copenhagen.

City are playing their second leg against the Danish outfit, and hold a 3-1 lead.

It is typical for Pep Guardiola to speak to reporters the day before City play in Europe and usually, one first-team player will also take questions.

There was some surprise yesterday as Haaland was the man put forward to speak, as this is something he rarely does.

Haaland made a few headlines with comments. He addressed his miss against Manchester United on Sunday, but his remarks about his future were the most significant. He admitted that while he was happy at City, ‘you never know’ what can happen. His honesty was lapped up by Murphy…

Haaland press conference really aren’t that common, so when they do come around, they are always more interesting than most other players.

According to The Athletic, his press conference on Tuesday was actually the first one he’s done since he was unveiled as a new signing in July 2022.

The general consensus since Tuesday has been that Haaland came across really well – and Danny Murphy simply loves the way he interviews.

He said on talkSPORT earlier today: “I thought it was brilliant because it was refreshingly straight and honest and realistic. Of course the facts are around the management team and the way the club is run is crucial to a player like him. If Pep decided at the end of the season he was done, then that relationship has to start again with somebody else that might not be perfect, therefore you might end up at a Real Madrid, wherever.

“He’s just being himself. Realistic, honest. The last thing you want to do is sit there and say I’m never leaving this club. You don’t know what’s around the corner in football. So I like it. The way he conducts himself, the way he does his interviews – I like. It’s refreshing. He’s concise, generally, and confident.”

Fair play to Haaland

Haaland did come across really well yesterday, and City fans need not worry much about the comments he made on his future.

He may not have shut the door on him leaving in the future, but importantly he said that he was very happy right now.

It is no secret that Haaland admires Real Madrid and there is probably a pretty good chance he’ll move to the Bernabeu later in his career. The Spanish giants have long coveted him, and the situation just is what it is. There is no point Haaland skirting around the subject – he might as well just be honest.

City fans don’t need to worry about him leaving any time soon anyway as hardly any clubs in the world will be able to afford him right now and as he said, he’s very happy.
