Ian Wright empathises with the plight of the Manchester City players if the club are found guilty of having breached financial regulations.
The pundit believes such a verdict regarding City’s 115 alleged breaches would take away from their remarkable achievements over the years, as he detailed on The Overlap’s Stick To Football show.
Currently, a dark cloud hangs over not just Pep Guardiola’s men but the club as a whole.
Ian Wright feels sorry for Manchester City players amid 115 financial charges
Recently, the Daily Mail’s respected journalist, Jack Gaughan revealed that those within the club are confident that they will be cleared of the charges made by the Premier League.
It was claimed in November that a potential verdict regarding the case could be reached in the summer of 2025.
However, Ian Wright explained why he feels sorry for the current crop of Manchester City players.

“I’ll tell you what the real saddest situation is, what we find ourselves in here. In fact, the Man City players find themselves in”, he said on The Overlap’s Stick To Football show.
“As a team that have arguably played some of the greatest football we’ve seen in the Premier League, players achieving unbelievable things, I think the owners of that club owe it to those players to clear their name simply because everything we’re saying, we’re waxing lyrical about [Kevin] De Bruyne and all the players, all that will be tainted for him if they do not sort this out quickly. They owe it to those players who are doing unbelievable things for Man City, going for their fourth [Premier League title] now to clear this up.”
The pundit makes a fair point about the Manchester City players
Regardless of where one stands regarding the alleged financial breaches involving Manchester City, Ian Wright is fair to empathise with the players.
If City are found guilty, it would not be a surprise to see several fans and pundits alike dismiss the club’s achievements and ergo, dismiss the greatness of the players who were involved in their rousing successes.
Ultimately, the players only partake in what occurs on the pitch and it is safe to say that they have operated at a tremendous level, especially under Pep Guardiola’s guidance.
In training, it is fair to assume that the players have put every ounce of their blood, sweat and tears to ensure that their side win trophies season after season.
However, many will deem their legacies as tainted if indeed Manchester City fail to come out on top in the legal battle, which is an unfortunate prospect.
