Manchester City have several players in their squad who know what it takes to play for England.

One of those players is Kyle Walker, who has 90 senior England caps to his name.

Having made his Three Lions debut back in November 2011, the City captain has appeared in numerous tournaments for his country.

In fact, the 34-year-old played every minute of the 2024 European Championship in Germany, making him one of the three outfield players to do so for England.

Following the departure of Gareth Southgate after the tournament in the summer, it was recently announced that Thomas Tuchel will become the new permanent England manager in January.

This has now led to City’s veteran full-back having his say on the matter.

Kyle Walker reacts to Thomas Tuchel’s England appointment

In a recent episode of You’ll Never Beat Kyle Walker, the right-back gave this assessment of Tuchel’s appointment as the new England boss.

He said: “I understand the English public thinking it should be an English manager. But for me, it’s about who is going to get results.

“He’s proven at big clubs he can manage big players with big characters, the likes of PSG, Chelsea and won the Champions League against Manchester City, that’s one that sticks firmly in my mind.

“It’s a great appointment and an even better appointment if he puts me in the team again. But the proof is in the pudding, we need to do it as players.”

Tuchel tried to sign Walker back in 2023

Having been a part of Pep Guardiola’s side since 2017, the right-back has gone on to make 308 appearances for the Citizens in total.

Across those games, Walker has lifted multiple domestic and European trophies with the Manchester club, making himself a key figure in their recent history.

Back in the 2023 summer transfer window, Tuchel tried to sign Walker for Bayern Munich.

In fact, Wallker reportedly agreed personal terms to join Tuchel at Bayern but ended up staying at the Etihad Stadium.

Before it was reported that the Englishman would be staying at the Manchester club, Tuchel was seen chatting to Walker after City beat Bayern during their 2023 pre-season tour of Asia.

Taking that on board, it could work well in Walker’s favour in terms of continuing to play regularly for England considering how Tuchel is seemingly a big admirer of the full-back.
