Branded as an ‘underrated genius’ by the Guardian, the treble-winner’s exit has prompted several tributes, such as those from the likes of Erling Haaland and Aymeric Laporte.

Unsurprisingly so, considering the five-time Premier League winner has been one of City’s most vital players over half a decade now.

Now, John Stones has lauded Riyad Mahrez for how much he enjoyed playing alongside him at Manchester City.

Riyad Mahrez merits all the plaudits after his time at the Etihad Stadium

After an unforgettable spell at Leicester City, where the Le Havre academy talent notably led the club to a legendary Premier League title win, many were keen to discover how he would fare at a truly elite side.

With John Stones alongside any and everyone associated with Manchester City lamenting his exit, it is clear to see that Riyad Mahrez had quite an impact.

After a difficult debut season, Mahrez redeemed himself, adapting to Guardiola’s demands, becoming a key cog in one of the greatest teams of all time and evolving into the most complete version of himself.

While many players tend to struggle to thrive when given the chance to be amongst the very elite, the twinkle-toed winger clearly shrugged such question marks by becoming a legend of the game at City.
