Manchester City were linked with transfer moves for a significant number of players throughout the 2024 summer transfer window.
Despite that, the only names City brought in over the summer were Savinho and Ilkay Gundogan.
One figure they were linked with was Jamal Musiala, who was seen as a top summer target for Pep Guardiola according to The Guardian.
With the Blues ultimately not making a move for the midfielder, the Bayern Munich star has now shed some light on how he was urged by someone over the summer to sign for City’s close rivals instead.

Jamal Musiala says Joshua Zirkzee tried to get him to join Man United
In a recent interview with Welt am Sonntag (relayed by Sport Witness), Musiala had this to say about how Joshua Zirkzee tried to convince him to join the striker at Manchester United while they were on holiday together over the summer.
He said: “You always joke around with friends and dream of playing together in a team one day.
“The jokes go both ways: I also told Josh that he should come back to Bayern. But you shouldn’t take that too seriously.
“I am very happy at FC Bayern and fully focused on our goals with the club and the national team. I don’t think too much about where I will be playing in five years.
“Things can always change quickly in the world of football.”
City should be glad Musiala didn’t go to United
During his time at Bayern, Musiala has appeared in 166 senior games for the German club, bagging 44 goals and delivering 31 assists along the way.
To further highlight how much of a top talent he is, former City defender Aymeric Laporte picked him as one of Germany’s standout players during the 2024 European Championship.
This shows that the Blues should be glad that Musiala didn’t take Zirkzee’s advice and follow him to Old Trafford.
Now that the German has opened up about his future at Bayern, it’ll be interesting to see if City make an attempt to land his signature in the future.
