Jamie Carragher has said that in his opinion, Ederson Moraes is not having his best season in a Manchester City shirt.
On the latest episode of The Overlap’s Stick To Football, the pundit was discussing City’s 3-3 draw against Tottenham Hotspur, while focusing on their ongoing defensive woes.
Ederson eventually became a topic of conversation after his recent mistakes.
Jamie Carragher says Ederson is not having a great season
After the £35 million (Independent) man failed to stop Son Heung-min’s tame effort from bypassing him against Spurs, Roy Keane described his error as a piece of “awful goalkeeping.”
Similarly, Carragher himself called the 30-year-old out during the Sky Blues’ 4-4 draw against Chelsea, as he parried Conor Gallagher’s effort into Nicolas Jackson’s path, who put the ball into a virtually empty net.
Now, Jamie Carragher has claimed that Ederson is having an underwhelming season for Manchester City so far.

“I don’t think the ‘keeper’s been great. He is a great ‘keeper. I don’t think he’s been great this season. Even when you look at the stats, save percentage, he’s right near the bottom”, he said on The Overlap’s Stick To Football.
Ederson redeemed himself against Aston Villa
Jamie Carragher makes a fair point about Ederson, who has been culpable in between the sticks for the treble-winners on two notable instances this campaign.
Considering the decorated shotstopper is one of the best in the world in his position, at times, he has been alarmingly poor.
But against Aston Villa, Ederson redeemed himself by putting in a sensational performance.
As Unai Emery’s side dominated the visitors at Villa Park in every respect, they notably dismantled their defence on several instances.
But Ederson saved Manchester City from being demolished on the night, as a 1-0 scoreline flattered his side’s shoddy defensive performance.
The former Benfica No.1’s save to keep out Pau Torres’ effort stands out in particular, as his strike seemed destined for the top corner.
However, for a goalkeeper of Ederson’s standard, performances like this have become the norm and as a result, he cannot afford to make any more costly mistakes.
