Jamie Carragher has claimed that he has been “disappointed” by one Manchester City player this season.
Much like last season, most of Manchester City’s players have exhibited their class at different points of the campaign.
But Pep Guardiola’s men are a victim of their own standards and as a result, even slight drop-offs in form from them lead to major headlines.

Carragher says he’s been let down by one City player this season
As Manchester City gear up to play Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday, their players will have no room to have a poor day at the office.
William Saliba rightly pinpointed how competitive this Spurs side is.
But regardless, Carragher has claimed that one player at the Etihad Stadium has left him feeling disappointed.
Despite scoring 25 goals in the Premier League, Jamie Carragher felt this way about Erling Haaland and picked Ollie Watkins over him in his Team of the Season.
Carragher said on Sky Sports: “We know he’s the best centre-forward, it’s about what they’ve done this season.”
“Well, the reason I would go for Ollie Watkins, there’s not much difference in the numbers if you put the goals and assists together. He’s playing for Aston Villa, he’s playing for Manchester City and actually when I think of Erling Haaland this season, listen, we know he’s the best striker, we get that.”
Jamie Carragher added: “But this season, I actually think in the biggest of games, I’ve been slightly disappointed with Haaland. In the Champions League against Real Madrid, against Arsenal, Liverpool as well, when he’s come up against the real elite defenders, the elite defenders have got the better of him.”
Haaland is overly criticised as what the Carragher take suggests
In our view, the rationale from Jamie Carragher is proof that Erling Haaland is excessively slated.
The Liverpool legend is justified to have wished for the Sky Blues’ number nine to dominate against Real Madrid, Arsenal and Liverpool.
But simultaneously, in such games, Haaland’s teammates and their inadequacies do not seem to be highlighted.
Whether it be the fact that in these games in particular, the 23-year-old was barely picked out by his teammates in goalscoring positions.
Erling Haaland made the right runs and picked up dangerous positions but his teammates’ vision and execution were subpar on such days.
Also, considering Haaland is the league’s top goalscorer, the fact that Carragher did not name him in his Team of the Season is bewildering.
Over the course of Premier League history, any striker who scores as many as 25 goals with two games to spare is praised for having a tremendous season.
Erling Haaland would be justifiably miffed by the discourse that surrounds him, including the points raised by Jamie Carragher.
