Joe Cole shares where he thinks Manchester City will finish in the Premier League this season

Manchester City still have a trophy to play for this season, but as far as their Premier League hopes are concerned, a top-four spot is the best they can hope for now.

The Citizens’ incredible Premier League title-winning streak is sadly set to finish this year, with Rodri’s injury and the drop in form of other key players costing Pep Guardiola dear.

That said, City have already embarked on a rebuild, signing players like Omar Marmoush, who Sam Allardyce has deemed a “diamond”.

City are still doing enough in the league to remain in the picture for Champions League qualification next season, but there’s strong competition around them.

The Citizens are currently sixth in the table on 52 points, with Newcastle and Chelsea above them on 53 points and Nottingham Forest in third on 57 points.

Aston Villa are snapping at City’s heels in seventh, just one point behind Guardiola’s side, and Fulham are just four points below the Villans in eighth.

Chelsea cult hero Joe Cole has now predicted where he feels City will finish in the Premier League table.

Joe Cole backs Manchester City to finish fourth

Cole, speaking on The Dressing Room podcast, backed City to finish above Chelsea, with Forest in third and the Citizens in fourth.

However, the Stamford Bridge cult hero stressed that it’s so hard to predict, it may as well be “a flip of a coin”.

“I’m going to go Nottingham Forest third, Man City fourth,” Cole said.

“I’m worried about Chelsea, but it’s tough isn’t it.

“I’ve done the City one just because of the name more than anything. It’s a flip of a coin isn’t it.”

Manchester City’s Premier League run-in

City have seven league fixtures left this season, and while no top-flight fixtures can be considered easy these days, the run-in isn’t particularly brutal for Guardiola’s side.

As things stand, none of the teams City play are above them in the table. Three of the seven teams are in the top half of the table, while four are in the bottom half – indeed, three are in the bottom six.

Crystal Palace are currently 11th in the table, while Everton are 15th in the standings.

Villa are the closest team to City currently, then come Wolves, who are 17th, followed by a trip to already-relegated Southampton.

Bournemouth and Fulham, City’s final two league opponents of the season, are currently 10th and eighth in the table.
