It has been reported that Manchester City-linked defender Benjamin Pavard is interested in a summer transfer to Manchester United.

This comes from Fabrizio Romano, after it was claimed in July that City had opened talks to sign the Bayern Munich centre-back.

However, it seems like Manchester City could be set to miss on Benjamin Pavard, who may well be heading to Manchester United.

Fabrizio Romano: Manchester City-linked defender Benjamin Pavard is ‘keen’ on Manchester United transfer

It was even reported in April this year that Pep Guardiola was eyeing a move for the World Cup winner in the summer transfer window.

After all, the versatile operator, branded as ‘underrated’ by Thomas Tuchel (via Get Football News France) is capable of both operating at right-back and as a centre-half, whilst perhaps fitting into Guardiola’s current setup of playing with four traditional defenders at the back.

Now, however, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester City-linked defender Benjamin Pavard could be interested in a move to Manchester United.

“Manchester United have three options in the list for new centre back. Benjamin Pavard, Jean Clair Todibo and Edmond Tapsoba are being considered as possible names to replace [Harry] Maguire. Talks already took place with Todibo as revealed here; Pavard, keen on the move.”

Benjamin Pavard is no longer needed at the Etihad Stadium

If Benjamin Pavard does end up becoming a Manchester United player, Manchester City have no reason to be disappointed.

The French international’s arrival was perhaps only a requirement with Kyle Walker looking likely to leave the Sky Blues in favour of a move to Bayern Munich.

However, with the Englishman reported to be set to pledge his future to Pep Guardiola’s side, the need for the Bundesliga winner no longer exists.

Even if the goal was to sign Pavard as a traditional centre-back, Gvardiol’s arrival has meant that City can simply let their cross-town rivals sign him if they wish to finalise the deal.
