Manchester City fans could see a few players depart this summer.

A key change has already been made behind the scenes as Hugo Viana arrives to replace Txiki Begiristain as Director of Football at the Etihad Stadium, and the man from Barcelos will be tasked with freshening up an ageing Manchester City squad.

Kevin De Bruyne is leaving Manchester and Jack Grealish could be sold – while Diogo Costa looks set to replace Ederson in between the sticks next season.

James McAtee is another who could leave – with Leeds United now registering an interest in the attacking midfielder.

Leeds United want James McAtee

The Sunday Mirror (print version, Sunday 11th May, page 64) are now claiming that Daniel Farke wants the England U21 international at Elland Road next season, after guiding the Whites back into the Premier League.

It comes after a report from the Telegraph stated that McAtee – who is valued at £25m – is unhappy at Manchester City and feels frustrated by a lack of opportunities under Guardiola, having only made three Premier League starts this season.

The Manchester City No.87 will only have 12 months remaining on his contract in June, and the expectation is that Viana will look to find a buyer, rather than lose him for nothing on a free transfer in 2026.

However, Leeds do not have a free run at his signature, as the Mirror believe Crystal Palace and West Ham also want to sign the 22-year-old.

Furthermore, Nottingham Forest are keen on McAtee, and have a bargaining chip in the fact Manchester City want to sign Morgan Gibbs-White.

James McAtee decision could offer a Florian Wirtz hint

Outside of England, Bayer Leverkusen want McAtee, and Manchester City are also keen on a player the Bundesliga side have.

A meeting was held about Florian Wirtz at the Etihad Campus recently between Manchester City and Bayer Leverkusen to discuss the situation, as the German outfit also want Stefan Ortega, suggesting a player-plus-cash deal could take place.

However, Bayern Munich want Wirtz too, and are believed to have moved into pole position in recent weeks.

Therefore, if Manchester City end up selling McAtee, it would suggest a move for the Germany international is no longer possible, or else he would surely be kept as a bargaining chip.
