For the first time since 2020, Manchester City will head into the upcoming season with the goal of dethroning Liverpool as Premier League champions.
During the 2020/2021 campaign, Pep Guardiola’s men reclaimed their status as top dogs while the Reds finished 17 points behind them in third place.
However, with Liverpool signing Florian Wirtz among plenty of big names this summer, it seems like their intention is to build a dynasty similar to City in recent years.
Pep Guardiola looks excited about next season and the challenge of usurping Arne Slot’s side could put a spring in his step.

Liverpool not keen on signing Man City target Rodrygo
Both clubs still seem to be focused on adding to their summer business, with Manchester City set to sign James Trafford and Liverpool targeting Alexander Isak.
Liverpool and Manchester City have eyed Rodrygo this summer as well, who looks destined to leave Real Madrid.
However, journalist Eduardo Burgos has revealed that the Premier League champions now intend to sign Isak and are no longer keen on signing the Brazilian.
With Liverpool ready to “break the bank” to sign Isak, who is valued at £150 million by Newcastle United, Manchester City could have less competition in the quest among several clubs to sign Rodrygo.
Rodrygo stats compared to Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish
Rodrygo has been waiting to join Manchester City despite Arsenal’s interest in his signature as well.
Rodrygo registered 14 goals and 11 assists last season, more than City’s current left-wingers in Jeremy Doku (eight goals and nine assists) and Jack Grealish (three goals and five assists).

With Grealish set to leave Manchester City, the former Santos winger could push Doku for a starting place in the side if he moves to the Etihad Stadium.
Considering Liverpool could be out of the picture in the race to sign Rodrygo, who Jude Bellingham called “gifted”, Manchester City may perhaps be tempted to ramp up their efforts to secure his services.
