Luke Mbete has worked and trained with many players during his time at Manchester City.

Having worked his way through the youth academy at City, the defender has made just three first-team appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Despite his lack of senior game time, the 20-year-old has experience of being around a wide range of some of the best players City have ever had.

In fact, the youngster has highlighted one of those players he has particular admiration for.

Luke Mbete shares his admiration for Vincent Kompany

In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Mbete had this to say about Vincent Kompany on the subject of which players he’s admired during his time at City.

He said: “I’ve been fortunate enough to meet Vincent Kompany and as a person, he is a great guy.

“As a player, he stood out to me growing up. He is a leader and obviously plays in the same position as me. His aura is just elite. He is a top player and a top person as well.

“He’s someone I have looked at since I was young and I feel like I have learnt a lot from him. I try to add some of his stuff into my game. To be compared or linked to someone of his ability would be great.”

Kompany is a City icon

During his time with the Citizens, Kompany made 360 appearances across all competitions, scoring 20 goals, delivering 10 assists and captaining the club to numerous trophies.

A while after he left the club in 2019, a statue of the former defender was put up outside the Etihad Stadium to commemorate his efforts for the team.

Having had such a big impact at the club, it comes as no surprise that Mbete is a big fan of the former City defender, who Guardiola has even admitted will manage the Blues at some point in the future.
