It has been reported that PSG are now leading the race to sign Manchester City-linked wonderkid Gabri Veiga.

This comes from journalist Santi Aouna, after it was claimed on last Wednesday that Pep Guardiola’s men were interested in signing the Celta Vigo starlet, who has a £34.3 million release clause in his contract.

However, it seems like PSG could edge out Manchester City in the chase for Gabri Veiga after all.

PSG now the frontrunners in race to sign Manchester City target Gabri Veiga

As City decided not to go ahead in their pursuit to sign Arsenal-bound Declan Rice, it seems like the Spaniard may be well be viewed as the ideal replacement for Ilkay Gundogan.

After all, it has been previously reported that the Englishman was considered as the successor to the German, only if he decided to leave the club, which has occurred as he has joined Barcelona.

However, PSG have now ‘made progress in recent hours’ to sign Manchester City target Gabri Veiga.

Additionally, the Ligue 1 champions are keen to get a deal done for the 21-year-old as soon as possible in order to beat the competition.

So much so that the European giants aim to ensure that Veiga completes his medical with the club at the end of next week.

Manchester City should not panic yet

It was reported on last Thursday that Manchester City were still waiting to decide whether they wished to step up their efforts to sign the PSG-linked midfielder..

Judging by how Pep Guardiola’s men have operated in the transfer market for years on end, they tend to have alternatives for every summer target.

Considering that is likely to be the case, City have no reason to panic in their pursuit for a replacement for Ilkay Gundogan in the advanced No.8 role.

However, Manchester City must address this priority position as quickly as possible to ensure that the potential fresh face gets enough time to learn the Pep Guardiola way during pre-season.
