Barcelona have not given up hope of trying to sign Bernardo Silva from Manchester City despite their financial situation.

That’s according to 90min, who have reported the Spanish giants and exploring all avenues in the hope of getting a deal done.

Bernardo has been a key player for City in recent years, and played a vital role in Pep Guardiola’s side winning the treble last season.

However, although the 28-year-old is happy playing for City, he is open to leaving the Etihad Stadium in search of a new challenge and a more agreeable climate in which to live.

Bernardo has turned down a lucrative offer to play in Saudi Arabia, with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain his most likely suitors in Europe.

Barcelona haven’t given up

Bernardo’s preferred destination is believed to be Barcelona, but the club’s financial situation would make a move for the midfielder difficult.

The Blaugrana are in a financial mess, and cannot register new signings to play in La Liga unless they sell players and reduce their inflated wage bill.

However, as reported by 90min, Barcelona are “exploring ways to cobble together an acceptable package amid their financial struggles and are in talks with Bernardo Silva’s agent, Jorge Mendes.”

City reportedly want at least £75m for Bernardo, although some reports have claimed that they could demand a similar fee to the £105m West Ham received for Declan Rice.

90min clarified that Barcelona may have to sell two first-team players in order to fund a move for Bernardo, with midfielder Franck Kessie named as a possible departee.

Barca president Joan Laporta certainly believes a deal is possible though, as he recently told supporters.

MCN view: Bernardo’s dream move seems unlikely

City’s stance is that any player who wishes to leave can do so, as long as they bring a suitable offer to the table.

Bernardo’s attitude and application in recent seasons has been excellent despite his desire to leave, so he deserves to get the move.

However, if Barcelona can’t stump up the cash and no other suitable offers come in, then Bernardo will have to settle for another season at the Etihad.
