Man City eyeing summer move for Bruno Guimaraes’ ‘magnificent’ Newcastle teammate

Manchester City are expected to be very busy in the summer – and Pep Guardiola appears to have a new potential transfer target in mind.

It has been a very difficult season for Manchester City, who are looking to finish in the Champions League places with all hope of winning a fifth straight Premier League title gone.

City lost Rodri to a serious knee injury earlier this season, and the Spaniard has proven to be a huge loss in midfield, as expected.

City have been carved open too many times this season, and Rodri’s absence has really stung for Pep Guardiola.

But in addition to Rodri being unavailable, City have just had far too many players – many previously so reliable – have poor campaigns. On that, it’s been claimed Man City could now let seven senior players leave this summer.

Kyle Walker was especially poor before his loan exit to AC Milan, and seemingly the club will try and sign a right-back in the summer.

Man City are doing work on Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, but there is also word of interest in Tino Livramento.

According to the Telegraph, City will indeed target a right-back as part of their summer rebuild – and Tino Livramento of Newcastle United is of interest.

It’s stated that Livramento is currently being monitored along with Andrea Cambiaso of Juventus.

Livramento signed for Newcastle from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 for an initial £32 million. But the deal could rise to as high as £40 million (BBC Sport).

The star has made 66 appearances for the club so far.

The report also suggests City will be in the market for a new midfielder, and it’ll be interesting to see if the club also make a push for Livramento’s teammate for this position.

Bruno Guimaraes is a long-term target for Man City, and could be someone the club prioritise.

Alan Shearer loves Man City target Livramento

Livramento is potentially one the most exciting young full-backs in the Premier League.

He’s a player Premier League legend Alan Shearer certainly admires.

Back in 2023, City went to St. James’ Park to play Newcastle in the Carabao Cup and lost 1-0. That night, Livramento was absolutely excellent, leading Shearer to brand him ‘magnificent’ on X.

Shearer hailed Livramento again in December 2023, admitting he didn’t realise how good a player he actually is.

Talking about him potentially becoming an England regular on The Rest Is Football podcast, he said: “He has played for England at almost every level up until now. I would really hope that someone has already, and if they haven’t then they should rather quickly, get on the phone to him and tell him he has a big future in the England squad – whether that is at right-back or left-back.

“Because I am sure Newcastle bought him, they spent £30 million, and he did have a serious injury but there has always been that thing around him where he has huge potential and he’s a very good player, but I didn’t realise how good a player he was until I saw him at Newcastle, in a Newcastle shirt.”

Shearer also said Livramento was ‘absolutely outstanding’ against Arsenal earlier this season (via Premier League’s official coverage).
