Real Madrid have seemingly held a longstanding interest in signing Manchester City midfielder Rodri.
Florentino Perez personally wants to sign Rodri and AS have now revealed that Los Blancos wish to secure the 28-year-old’s services as the heir to Toni Kroos.
With Real Madrid open to selling Rodrygo Goes, an exit which could bank them €80 million (£69.2 million) or even €100 million (£86.5 million) as per the report coupled with the Spanish giants still being in a strong financial position, they could afford the Ballon d’Or winner’s arrival.
However, Manchester City fans have rubbished the speculation as they believe the Spaniard is set to stay at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City fans not worried about Real Madrid eyeing Rodri move
One Manchester City fan believes that unlike Trent Alexander-Arnold, who Real Madrid have signed this summer, they will be unable to pull off a move for Rodri, claiming: “We are so flattered man. They think they can pull a Trent on us.”
Manchester City believe Rodri could extend his contract and another fan believes he will do so as well while predicting Xabi Alonso’s side not to pay an arm and a leg to sign him: “Rodri wouldn’t run down his contract, he’ll renew it, Madrid would never pay over £100 million, priceless for me the GOAT [greatest of all time] CDM [central defensive midfielder].”
A third Manchester City fan claimed that considering how Real Madrid chose not to attend last year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony when Rodri won the award, they blew their chances of signing him, writing: “Don’t think he’d want to join a club that whined about him winning.”
A fourth supporter echoed such sentiments, adding: “Disrespected him on the biggest night of his life for giving him his award and they think he’s going to join them.”
A fifth City fan rubbished the speculation as well, simply writing: “They can’t sign him even in their dreams.”
Finally, a sixth Manchester City fan was confident that neither Rodri nor the club itself would sell him anytime soon despite Real Madrid’s interest, writing: “He’s the one player I know for a fact would never leave or we sell.”
With Rodri’s contract expiring in 2027, City’s responsibility will be to tie him down to a new deal or risk the prospect of clubs queuing up in numbers to sign him.
Rodri has already responded to whether he will sign new Man City contract
Manchester City fans would have been irate as Real Madrid intended to scout Rodri during the FIFA Club World Cup.
When quizzed about his future in November, Rodri admitted a new contract isn’t his priority and was instead focusing on getting back to full fitness from his ACL injury, revealing: “Now, with the injury, it’s not my priority. I want to recover and we’ll see.”
“I don’t know, I like to live in the present and I have a contract with my club, I’m very happy there.”
Rodri admitted that he remains an admirer of La Liga, having played in the competition for Villarreal and Atletico Madrid but insisted that he loves playing in the Premier League and for Manchester City, saying: “Closing yourself or opening doors to you makes no sense. I’m still passionate about the Spanish league but the English league is special. It’s a club where I feel very identified, very familiar and I feel very comfortable. I would have to think a lot about getting out of there.”
