Manchester City fans are questioning Pep Guardiola after the latest player to leave the Etihad Stadium has been officially confirmed.

The Premier League giants are looking to put the finishing touches on their transfer business with only days remaining in the current window, with the main focus being on reducing the size of Guardiola’s squad.

A lot of attention will be on Tottenham’s pursuit of Savinho, as well as the future of Ederson, as both will need replacing if they leave the Manchester club.

Man City have already finalised several deals to get players off their books over the past week or so, and another has just been announced, which has not gone down well with every fan.

Man City fans question why Claudio Echeverri has been allowed to leave on loan

It was reported this week that Bayer Leverkusen had agreed a deal with Man City to sign Claudio Echeverri on loan, after the Bundesliga club hijacked Borussia Dortmund’s pursuit of the midfielder.

The transfer is a simple loan deal for the 2025/26 campaign, and although it is only temporary, some Man City fans are not happy that the Argentine star was allowed to leave, with their unhappiness going as far as questioning Guardiola.

One Manchester City fan reacted to the Echeverri news by posting on X (formerly known as Twitter): “So he is gone as well! I don’t get the mentality of letting go of young players.”

A second supporter of the Manchester club added: “Pep has no room for polishing young players, one thing that he lacks, no matter how good he is.”

A final City fan stated: “Embarrassing decision by Pep. The decisions Pep has been making are embarrassing. Watch Echeverri be sold in 2 years!!”

Guardiola considered keeping Echeverri at Man City for the new season as the legendary coach is a huge fan of the Argentine star; however, in the end, it was the midfielder who wanted the move.

Why Claudio Echeverri wanted to leave Man City on loan

Man City wanted Echeverri to move to Girona for the 2025/26 season; however, the 19-year-old was not keen on moving to the Catalan club, as he wanted to play in the Champions League or Europa League, which is a box that Bayer Leverkusen ticks.

The reason for this is that the midfielder believes this will help his chances of being part of the Argentina squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is the main motivation behind his decision to leave City.

The youngster would not have got the minutes needed to convince Lionel Scaloni to take him to the World Cup had he stayed at the Etihad Stadium; therefore, Guardiola cannot be blamed for Echeverri moving to Germany.

Guardiola has high hopes for Echeverri, with the legendary coach labelling the 19-year-old “incredible” following his recent goal against Al Ain at the Club World Cup, and there should be no doubts over the youngster having a future in Manchester.
