Man City fans now willing to give £53m player a chance after what he did last season, he could be ‘perfect’

Manchester City are still on the lookout for new signings ahead of the Premier League getting back underway in August.

Pep Guardiola has seen Tijjani Reijnders added to his squad over the summer, with the Dutch star following the arrival of Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri, and Marcus Bettinelli.

There are still issues that need to be addressed within the Manchester club’s squad, with Fabrizio Romano predicting Man City to move for a right-back next.

The Premier League giants have struggled to address the role during the current transfer window so far, and if they fail to bring in a new player for the role, Man City fans seem happy for Matheus Nunes to pick up where he left off last season.

Man City fans are willing to give Matheus Nunes a chance

Man City signed Nunes to be part of their midfield during the summer of 2023 in a £53m deal with Wolves, but last season, the Portuguese star impressed at right-back following the departure of Kyle Walker to AC Milan.

In an ideal world, Guardiola adds a new right-back to his squad ahead of the 25/26 season, but Man City fans were happy with Nunes at right-back last season, and this doesn’t seem to have changed, despite the 26-year-old’s struggles at the FIFA Club World Cup.

When fans of the Manchester club were asked if they would be happy with Nunes at full-back for the upcoming season, one City supporter responded on X (formerly known as Twitter) by saying: “He has a very good attitude. Perfect Pep player. Patient and open to learn.”

Another Man City fan chipped in by saying: “He definitely has the skills to be a good right back. Pace, power, defending is much improved, and the quality to make runs and cross in the final 3rd. But he still gives the ball away too much and I think has the bozo gene.”

While a final fan of the Manchester club said about Nunes: “I’m actually happy to have Nunes as our RB, but I simply can’t trust Pep not to throw Akanji or Rico in and just change the system for no reason, just like the FA Cup final, so it’s weird one”

Latest on Man City’s search for a right-back

Heading into the summer transfer window, Tino Livramento was Man City’s top target for the right-back role in Guardiola’s squad; however, Newcastle have no plans to part ways with the Englishman, no matter what they are offered for the defender.

Another option Man City were willing to explore was Flamengo star Wesley, but the Manchester club waited too long and the Brazilian looks to be joining Roma ahead of the 25/26 season.

Man City fans would like to see their club move for Inter star Denzel Dumfries, but the latest is that the Premier League club have no interest in the 29-year-old.

It seems that the Manchester club have hit a wall in their search for a new right-back, but with a long way still to go before the transfer window shuts, the perfect player may still emerge.
