Manchester City fans expressed their undying love for Kevin De Bruyne by giving him a send-off for the ages after he played his final game at the Etihad Stadium against AFC Bournemouth.

The midfield maestro’s name was constantly chanted in the aftermath of the contest, followed by the likes of Vincent Kompany paying tribute to De Bruyne amongst many.

As City have just one game to go before their disappointing 2024/2025 season comes to an end, clubs are prepared to secure the Belgian’s services — with Napoli keen to sign De Bruyne if he agrees to a move.

The Sky Blues supporters will be relieved that De Bruyne will not sign for an English club.

De Bruyne dropped a hint about his future by admitting that he would like to play for another Premier League club but after deciding not to, Manchester City fans have expressed their delight.

Man City fans happy Kevin De Bruyne won’t sign for another Premier League club

One Manchester City fan reacted to De Bruyne’s decision by simply writing: “A true City legend.”

Another City supporter suspected that the former VfL Wolfsburg attacker may have come to such a decision after the incredible reception he was given at the Etihad Stadium against Bournemouth: “There is no way he could stand in the stadium last night and see himself playing against us in England surely.”

The way Manchester City handled De Bruyne’s exit was by suddenly deciding to let him go despite initially giving the 33-year-old the impression that it was his decision to extend his contract; prompting a fan to praise the Drongen-born technician for his loyalty: “Even when the club did him wrong, he’s still being loyal, wow.”

However, another fan suspected that it was expected for the City legend to decide not to play for another club in England: “Of course, that’s expected. He just used to say that there’s a chance for him to play in England just to vent out frustration at the board.”

A fifth supporter expressed his relief, adding: “Yes! I could not handle watching him play for another Premier League club.”

Finally, a sixth fan urged Manchester City’s academy to be renamed after De Bruyne and his number, 17 to be retired: “Retire his number and name the academy after him a statue isn’t enough.”

Leroy Sane called De Bruyne a “legend” to pay homage to him and the City fans must collectively agree even more with the German international as he has pledged his loyalty to the club.

Fabrizio Romano reveals one club is ready to sign De Bruyne

Bernardo Silva raved about De Bruyne by naming him as Manchester City’s greatest-ever player and the legacy that he is set to leave behind will only be further celebrated due to his latest career decision.

De Bruyne is a Liverpool fan and he could well have explored a move to Anfield or any of the other clubs in the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ for that matter.

But instead, the Manchester City captain decided it would be best if he continued his career away from England.

With Fabrizio Romano revealing that Napoli are ready to sign De Bruyne, only time will tell whether a move to Italy appeals to him.
