With deadline day fast approaching on Friday, Manchester City would largely have their transfer plans set in place.
However, as is the case during every summer transfer window, City would also be proactive and potentially try bringing in extra bodies if one of their players departs the club.
Pep Guardiola’s side are expected to play two more games in the group-stage of the UEFA Champions League this season.
Furthermore, the 32-team FIFA Club World Cup will lead to City playing an unprecedented number of games — considering they seem set to go far in Europe as well as domestic competitions as well.
With that being the case, the importance of the transfer window would only have increased for top clubs as a whole.
In Savinho and Ilkay Gundogan, it seems like two players have made their way to the Etihad Stadium who are ready to deliver in the here and now for Manchester City.

Report shares fresh transfer update about Man City’s Matheus Nunes
However, certain players in every squad seem expendable from the outside.
Matheus Nunes, for instance, seems like one of the rare cases of signings that could be deemed as potential flops in the Pep Guardiola era at Manchester City.
So much so that Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Nunes on a season-long loan — despite him signing for City as recently as in the summer of 2023.
On Tuesday, it was reported that if Nunes leaves Manchester City, the club could potentially make a move for a brand-new striker to serve as a backup to Erling Haaland.
A report by ESPN journalist Rob Dawson has claimed that the Premier League champions have not ruled out the departure of the £54 million man before the end of the transfer window.
Atletico Madrid are believed to be preferring a season-long loan for the 26-year-old — described as an “exceptional player” by Pep Guardiola via BeanymanSports — before having the option to sign him permanently next season.

Damning indictment of how Matheus Nunes has fared at Man City
Usually, Manchester City come across as a club that showcase a degree of patience towards their signings.
Despite the likes of Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez, Joao Cancelo and Bernardo Silva looking alarmingly unconvincing during their respective debut campaigns, they were all given a chance to redeem themselves.
But it seems like City do not back Nunes to bounce back in the same fashion that Grealish, Mahrez, Cancelo and Bernardo did.
Manchester City are seemingly open to cut their losses with the former Wolves midfielder to some degree.
Nunes is in the prime of his career and if he aspires to continue playing at the top level, he must secure regular playing time.
But whether the Premier League winner feels that the prospect of that being the case is likelier at City or elsewhere will be interesting to discover.
Julian Alvarez certainly made up his mind and now Nunes has a massive decision on his hands.
