Man City hoping 2025 transfer swoop for ‘exceptional’ player will convince Pep Guardiola to stay

Pep Guardiola has seen Manchester City sign multiple players during his time as the club’s manager.

In fact, Kevin De Bruyne is the only player in the City squad who was at the club before Guardiola arrived in 2016.

As things stand, the 53-year-old’s contract at the Etihad Stadium is set to expire in the summer, meaning that this season could be his last unless the Spaniard puts pen to paper on a new deal.

Now – however – even though the latest summer transfer window has closed, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding one player the club could look to make a move for in an effort to convince Guardiola to extend his time in Manchester.

Man City hoping Jamal Musiala transfer will convince Pep Guardiola to stay beyond 2025

A recent report from GiveMeSport had this to say on the matter.

It said: “Manchester City board members are hopeful that putting plans in place to make a move for Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala next year will convince Pep Guardiola to sign a new contract and remain in the Etihad Stadium hot-seat beyond the remainder of the campaign, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

“Manchester City have pinpointed Musiala as a potential recruit ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, according to GMS sources, and key decision-makers behind the scenes are desperate for plans to open negotiations for big-name targets of that ilk to persuade Guardiola to extend his Etihad Stadium reign.

“GMS sources have been informed that there is very little doubt that Manchester City will try to sign Musiala within the next 12 months if discussions over a new Bayern Munich contract do not progress as Guardiola is a huge fan and keeping a very keen eye on his situation at the Allianz Arena.”

Musiala would be a star signing for Guardiola and City

Dubbed an “exceptional” player by Michael Owen (via Bavarian Football Works), Musiala was reportedly a big target for City in the recent summer transfer window according to The Guardian.

At the age of 21, the midfielder has scored 44 goals and supplied 31 assists in 166 senior appearances for Bayern.

Interestingly, Musiala recently revealed that Joshua Zirkzee tried to convince him to sign for Manchester United over the summer, despite City’s reported interest in him.

Looking ahead to next summer, regardless of whether Guardiola signs a contract extension before then or not, a move for Musiala should definitely be on the club’s priority list.
