Josko Gvardiol could end up staying at RB Leipzig this summer as no deal has been agreed with Manchester City.

That’s according to reports from Sky journalists Florian Plettenberg and Philipp Hinze.

City entered the summer transfer window with RB Leipzig centre-back Gvardiol at the top of their shopping list, and on Wednesday it looked like they had got their man.

Fabrizio Romano reported that the two clubs had reached a verbal agreement for the transfer of the 21-year-old, reportedly around the £86m mark.

Gvardiol is understood to have agreed personal terms with City one month ago, and it was reported that he was due to complete his medical with the treble winners on Thursday.

However, conflicting reports have since cast doubt on the move, with some claiming that the two clubs are some way from agreeing a fee for the Croatian international.

Gvardiol could stay in Germany

Gvardiol has reported for pre-season training with RB Leipzig, and according to fresh reports, the possibility of him staying at the club should not be ruled out.

On Twitter, Plettenberg reported that there is “no agreement with Man City at this stage,” and quoted a source who said that “an agreement is not in sight.”

The journalist added that Leipzig want €100m (£86m) guaranteed plus realistic add-ons, and for that reason “it’s not excluded that he will stay for one more season,” at the Bundesliga side.

Gvardiol is understood to have a €110m (£94m) release clause in his contract which will become active in 2024.

Speaking at his side’s pre-season training camp, Leipzig manager Marco Rose told reporters: “Josko is one of our players and as far as I know he will remain one of our players.

“I don’t know anything about a medical check, nothing about a first and nothing about a second. I think if it was, I would know as head coach!”
