Manchester City do not have a history of doing much business in January, with Aymeric Laporte being their only addition in the winter before they went on a spending spree at the start of the year.
However, at the time, Pep Guardiola’s men were in dire straits and they were in desperate need of fresh faces.
As a result, City decided to sign the likes of Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis while adding Nico Gonzalez to their roster on deadline day.
Barring Reis, who has made just two starts since signing for Manchester City, which has made his game difficult to judge, the rest of the new signings have impressed.
However, Marmoush has stood out at Manchester City above the rest and perhaps been their most important player as they have managed to secure Champions League qualification.

Omar Marmoush has been a top signing for Man City
The £59 million Manchester City paid to sign Marmoush looks like a bargain and if they had not signed him in January, other clubs would have tried to as the Egyptian was having a phenomenal season at Eintracht Frankfurt.
The likes of Arsenal and Manchester United have every reason to be envious of the Sky Blues for signing the 26-year-old, who is exactly the kind of threat in the final third they need to add to their squad.
Marmoush has scored more goals in the Premier League (seven) than any Manchester City player since his move from Frankfurt — which sums up his incredible impact so far.
Meanwhile, no Arsenal player barring Kai Havertz (nine) and Gabriel Martinelli (eight) has outscored the 26-year-old in the league while Manchester United’s top scorer Amad Diallo (eight) has just one more goal than him as well.
Cafu described Marmoush as a “top player” and next season, he is expected to play a crucial role for Manchester City once again as he has looked like the real deal as an inside forward in Pep Guardiola’s system.
The former VfL Wolfsburg forward registered 20 goals and 14 assists for Eintracht Frankfurt in all competitions and considering he can play in all four positions up top, it is likely that his price tag would have shot up in the summer.
However, Manchester City managed to sign Marmoush for £59 million and it’s safe to say that considering how productive and versatile he is while also being a seemingly fast learner, the move has been a resounding success.
Who suggested Man City to sign Marmoush
Guardiola must be grateful for Txiki Begiristain’s expertise, as it was the veteran who suggested that Manchester City sign Marmoush, who has impressed Matheus Nunes amongst many of his teammates.
Pep Guardiola revealed in February: “Txiki Begiristain said we needed Omar Marmoush, I said, okay.”
“I called some contacts in Germany, I asked about him and they had a high, high opinion; behaviour, training sessions, and of course in assists and goals and pace.”
