Man City preparing to make £84m bid for midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has branded ‘incredible’

Manchester City were fairly quiet in the 2024 summer transfer window, but there are already suggestions that the club could spend big next time around.

There was plenty of speculation throughout the summer but in the end, just two players came in.

Savinho joined the club from Troyes in a £33 million deal, and then fans were treated to a nice surprise as Ilkay Gundogan returned on a free transfer.

There had been some suggestions that Manchester City would splash out. Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes was thought to be a player of interest, and there were more links to Ebere Eze of Crystal Palace.

But ultimately, Pep Guardiola decided he was happy with the make-up of his squad.

Another player City were loosely linked to was Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala – and a new claim has now been made about the Germany international.

It has been reported journalist Rudy Galetti for TEAMtalk, that City are preparing themselves to bid for Musiala.

Apparently as of right now, City are the ‘most informed’ team about Musiala, whose contract with the Bavarian giants expires in the summer of 2026.

City are not the only club circling, which is to be expected given Musiala’s quality.

A number of English clubs are interested, including Manchester United, Liverpool and, to a lesser extent, Chelsea.

Real Madrid are also in the frame, but it is stated that Musiala would prefer to make a move to the Premier League. It’s added he would like to leave Bayern in favour of a new challenge. A move next summer is looking ‘increasingly likely’.

TEAMtalk say City have hinted they can put forward and offer of £84 million. Bayern are likely to demand more, for a player seen as one of the world’s best in his position.

It was reported earlier this month that Bayern are still trying to extend Musiala’s contract at the Allianz Arena. Should they fail to do this, City will press ahead with their pursuit of the player.

Musiala would be an incredible signing

We will of course have to see what comes of the ongoing case against City regarding the 115 charges.

But assuming that City will not face any punishment, then a big-money move for Musiala next summer would certainly be exciting given his stature in the game these days.

Musiala is one of the top attacking midfielders in the world, and he would potentially make for a brilliant long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne. He also has the technical quality and versatility to perform roles Bernardo Silva does.

Earlier this year, during Euro 2024, Musiala came in for high praise from Gundogan, who branded his Germany teammate ‘incredible’ and a ‘joy to play with’.

You get the sense that Musiala would fit City perfectly given his amazing technical quality and understanding of the game. He could also potentially become something of a ‘next Gundogan’ at the Etihad in terms of the output he also brings and the way he ghosts into the box.
