Manchester City star Sergio Gomez put in a fine performance last night for the Spain U21s against Romania.
The youngsters got off to the ideal start in the U21 Euros with a comfortable 3-0 victory.
Spain dominated in the first-half as expected, but were unable to break down the Romanian defence.
But 10 minutes into the second-half, Villarreal’s Alex Baena broke the deadlock.
Juan Miranda then made it two, before City’s Gomez rounded things off.
Gomez was starting in a left wing position, as he often does for the Spain U21s. That is a role we have rarely seen him in at City.
And the chance to get forward really suited the former Anderlecht man, and one wonders if he could potentially be an option there for City with players looking set to leave the Etihad.
Sergio Gomez shines for Spain U21s against Romania
For a lot of City fans, the jury is still very much out on Gomez, who signed for the club for £11 million.

The star hasn’t had an awful lot of game time so far at the Etihad Stadium. But it’s been tough for him because Pep Guardiola has been using centre-backs out wide.
Both Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji have been brilliant on the left of a three-man defence.
But Gomez showed last night for Spain that he could perhaps be an option for City as a winger.
Not only did he score against Romania, but he also laid on the assist for Miranda.
And Gomez made two key passes in the game, and also had 90% pass accuracy which would probably please Pep if he saw.
Sergio Gomez needs to use U21s Euros to build up a head of steam after of Man City return
This tournament is a good chance for Gomez to really get some momentum going heading into pre-season at City.
He didn’t play much in his first season, and hasn’t yet made his mark on the manager.
But his performance last night was a reminder that Gomez has a big potential.
Clearly, he loves to get forward and one wonders if we might see him playing on the wing more often at City next time.

At the moment he’s got Jack Grealish ahead of him. But we have seen plenty of times at City that Pep will give chances to players that are in form and then keep them in the team when they play well.
Gomez needs to use this tournament to build up a head of steam.
He’s said that he wants to stay at the club this summer and fight for his place. It would be great to see him making a really fist of it next season to prove some of the doubters wrong.
