Mateo Kovacic is reportedly open to making a move to Manchester City this summer from Chelsea.

The Daily Mail have reported that the Croatia international would be keen to make a move up north to the Premier League champions-elect.

Kovacic will only have one year remaining on his contract this summer.

By many accounts, he is not likely to sign an extension at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s poor season in 2022/23 means they will be without any European football next season. And it looks as though Kovacic is open to joining a club that can offer that.

It is stated that City are keeping a watching brief on Kovacic ahead of the next window.

City will take stock of their squad at the end of the season.

If Ilkay Gundogan leaves the club then Pep Guardiola will need someone to replace the German.

£100,000-a-week ace Kovacic is a number eight and has similar qualities to the 32-year-old. He obviously has plenty of Premier League experience and is the kind of press-resistant player Guardiola likes.

It has previously been suggested that Chelsea would be looking for around £30 million to sell.

News of Kovacic being open to joining City is positive.

He would definitely not be a bad player to go for if Gundogan did leave the club this summer, as many fans are fearing he will.

The 29-year-old is brilliant at driving with the ball, and is very difficult to dispossess.

He’s been really good during his time in England so far, and there’s potential for him to get even better under Guardiola.

He is exactly the same kind of player as Gundogan, so City are right to be closely monitoring him ahead of the summer window opening.
