Callum Doyle has named his footballing hero growing up.

The 20-year-old came off the bench during Manchester City’s 4-3 defeat at the hands of Celtic in the first game of their US pre-season tour.

So far, the youngster has headed to three clubs on loan: Sunderland, Coventry City and Leicester City and impressively, he has stood out for every side.

Doyle has finally got his chance to showcase how he fares for City, with opportunities in store for him to face the likes of AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea in pre-season.

Callum Doyle shares Cristiano Ronaldo being his inspiration

At the end of the pre-season tour, it was reported last Thursday that the Manchester City defender looks set to sign for Norwich City on loan.

However, having looked the part in City’s latest outing against Celtic, as he made crucial challenges, looked composed on the ball and calm as a whole, if he maintains his high standards, Pep Guardiola could keep him in mind for the future.

At just 20, the highly-rated centre-back is still a very young prospect and he has plenty of time to improve and further develop his game.

Doyle will be guaranteed to go a long way if he mimics the hard work and dedication of Cristiano Ronaldo, who he named as his idol.

He told the club’s official in-house media: “With mine, because I used to be a striker, [it] had to be Cristiano [Ronaldo].”

Callum Doyle should remain inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo

Despite no longer being a striker anymore and playing at centre-back instead, Doyle should continue to be inspired by Ronaldo.

The Portuguese legend is one of the greatest players in the history of the game and for young players like the Englishman, they should aim to imitate the attention to detail that goes into his training — both on the pitch and off the pitch in terms of the graft he puts in at the gym or in terms of his nutrition.

Ronaldo is the ultimate professional and talent aside, his dedication is what has led to him becoming the player he is; an aspect Doyle should pay attention to as well.

For the Manchester City talent to enjoy a successful and long career, he must adopt the Manchester United and Real Madrid icon’s mentality of striving for greatness at all times.
