Manchester City could be set to conduct various pieces of business on deadline day.

Firstly, Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to join Manchester City to replace Fenerbahce-bound goalkeeper Ederson.

Furthermore, Manchester City News revealed that Manuel Akanji could depart the Etihad Stadium even though he is not overly keen on an exit.

Ilkay Gundogan could depart Manchester City as well.

Italy manager Gennaro Gattuso says Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to join Man City

However, Gianluigi Donnarumma looks set to be the most high-profile piece of business Manchester City could conduct on deadline day.

PSG expect Donnarumma to join Pep Guardiola’s side as well.

Now, Italy manager Gennaro Gattuso has confirmed that the 26-year-old is set to sign for the Sky Blues as well.

Gattuso confirmed Donnarumma’s imminent move to Manchester City via Gianluca Di Marzio’s official website: “Donnarumma needs to sort out a few things; he’ll undergo a medical and then sign his contract with Manchester City.”

PSG insider shares worrying reason why Pep Guardiola wants Gianluigi Donnarumma

Donnarumma, who Khvicha Kvaratskhelia called “extraordinary” will have big shoes to fill as Ederson’s successor if he does complete a move to Manchester City, as Gennaro Gattuso claims.

The Brazilian is arguably the greatest goalkeeper in City history and one whose legacy will likely age like fine wine.

Pep Guardiola’s reason for signing Donnarumma may be because he plans to win the Champions League and leave a season before his contract expires in 2027, as per journalist and PSG fan Julien Laurens: “I think this looks to me like a short-term move from Pep, in the sense that I don’t think Pep will be there next season. I think this is his last season with City. I think he thinks he might not fit my model and my philosophy exactly, completely.”

Laurens believes that Donnarumma does not fit into Manchester City’s style whatsoever.

The French broadcaster added: It’s like signing [Thibaut] Courtois.”

“He would have never signed somebody like Donnarumma or even Courtois five or six years ago, because he wanted and he needed an Ederson-type and he got it.”

It will be interesting to see whether Donnarumma starts against Manchester United after the international break or whether he is given more time to adapt into his potentially new surroundings.
