Manchester City have reportedly now agreed to send one of their young players on loan to a Championship club.

City have already sanctioned five exits this summer.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis has joined Southampton permanently after their promotion, and Tommy Doyle also turned his loan move to Wolves permanent.

Liam Delap recently completed a permanent transfer to Premier League new boys Ipswich Town.

Lewis Fiorini moved to Stockport County, and Sergio Gomez has gone back to Spain, joining Real Sociedad.

Now, it looks like another player could be heading out the door – but this one will only be on a temporary basis.

It has been reported by BBC Sport this afternoon that defender Callum Doyle is not set to join Norwich on loan for the 2024/25 season.

City have agreed to send him to Carrow Road, and the hope is that he will be a regular in their side.

Doyle spent last season on loan at Leicester City, but was limited to just 23 appearances for the Foxes after picking up an injury earlier doors.

That was a frustrating blow for the youngster, who had been a regular starter under Enzo Maresca upon joining.

But he looks like he will now get another chance to show what he can do in the Championship, with Norwich winning the race. A host of other clubs were said to be keen, but the Canaries have landed the 20-year-old and will hope he can help them to achieve promotion.

BBC Sport say ‘all parties are satisfied Carrow Road is the best destination for the defender to spend next season’.

There will be no buy option for Norwich, but they will pay a loan fee.

Doyle – branded ‘really talented’ and ‘very good’ technically by his former manager at Coventry City Mark Robins – has apparently already checked out Norwich’s training complex and was said to be left impressed by the setup.

A good move for Doyle

So it looks like Doyle will be playing his football for Norwich next season and this feels like a great move for him.

Last term was disappointing for Doyle because of the injury he picked up.

After returning in January, he couldn’t quite build momentum again, with Maresca’s side in promotion-hunting mode.

He’ll now get another chance to shine, and Norwich should be pushing for promotion to the Premier League again under new manager Johannes Hoff Thorup.

City will be hoping that he can be a regular feature so that next summer, they can either promote him to the first-team or, as they’ve been doing a lot in recent times, sell the academy product for big money.
