Manchester City new-boy Savio now shares which is his ‘favourite position’

Savio has now revealed which position is his “favourite” to play in on the pitch.

Throughout his career, the Brazilian international has played across the front line.

Perhaps Savio’s versatility was one of the primary factors behind Manchester City’s decision to snap him up from ESTAC Troyes.

Pep Guardiola tends to seemingly enjoy working with versatile players — with names like Lionel Messi, Joshua Kimmich and Bernardo Silva springing to mind — all capable of playing in multiple positions.

There are three different ways in which Savio can be utilised by Manchester City next season.

Savio reveals which position he feels is his natural role

It will be interesting to see how Guardiola deploys the youngster.

Jeremy Doku signed for the Sky Blues as a natural right-winger but the £378,846-a-week manager felt it was on the left flank where he wowed him.

But according to Savio, as flexible as he is, he is a natural right-winger by trade.

The 20-year-old said in his first interview with the club: “My favourite position that I really like, as you said, on the left and right, I can also play in the middle. But I really prefer to play on the right-wing. But whatever the coach, the boss decides, I will help the team.”

Manchester City’s latest recruit has revealed that Riyad Mahrez is his idol, who is one of the best right-wingers of his generation.

The signing of Savio solves Manchester City’s right-wing problem

Last season, often, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden — two players who are not natural wingers were often deployed on the right flank after the departures of Mahrez and Cole Palmer.

However, with Savio being a natural right-winger, Pep Guardiola no longer has no shoehorn either into the unnatural position.

The former Atletico Mineiro youngster has the creativity, ability to beat left-backs and skill to thrive on the right flank.

While Manchester City have only made one summer signing so far, the youngster could be one that addresses one of the problem areas in their squad next season.

Bernardo and Foden will now rarely play on the right-wing unless injuries or rotation mean they are forced to.

All in all, City sporting director Txiki Begiristain would have felt that a key motivator behind Savio’s signing could be how he could solve the club’s problem on the right flank and now only time will tell how comfortable he looks in his natural role while playing against Premier League defenders.
