Savio has revealed which former Manchester City player he considers as his role-model.

The Brazilian international — whose move to City has been officially announced has revealed how excited he is to work with Pep Guardiola next season.

The 20-year-old has officially become Manchester City’s first summer signing ahead of the club’s pre-season tour to the US.

The youngster’s arrival has come at the perfect time — as it is quite early before the Sky Blues’ 2024/2025 campaign.

Savio claims idol Riyad Mahrez is why he chose number 26 for Man City shirt number

With Manchester City’s history of having top wingers like Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez and Leroy Sane — it is natural that up-and-coming wide players would feel inspired while watching the club in action over the past few years.

The aforementioned wide forwards were both productive and entertaining to watch — making them an incredible set of wingers during their time at the Etihad Stadium.

Savio has revealed that Mahrez has always been his inspiration, however during his first interview with the club.

The highly-rated wonderkid said: “Yes, yes. Since I was little, like my friend, my dream was also to get here at Manchester City.”

“He always said that I looked a bit like Riyad but Mahrez is Mahrez, Savio is Savio.”

“I don’t want to create expectations for people, I just want to show my football. But I really like him, his football, for me, I’d say he’s an inspiration here, that’s why I chose his number and I’m excited to get playing.”

Easy to see why Savio is inspired by Riyad Mahrez

Firstly, much like Mahrez, Savio is a left-footer who often plays as a right-winger.

Like the Algerian legend, Manchester City’s latest signing is also renowned for his silky dribbling, impeccable technique and eye for a pass.

As a result, it would not be a surprise to discover that Savio modelled his game on former Sky Blues winger Mahrez.

But as the talented winger emphasised, him being inspired by the Al-Ittihad wideman does not mean expectations should be unnecessarily raised. After all, Mahrez is a City, a Premier League and a footballing hero.
