Manchester City have now been described as the main candidate to sign Valentin Barco from Boca Juniors.

That is according to RN.

So, what is the latest on Valentin Barco and Manchester City? Let’s take a look…

Manchester City targeting Valentin Barco

Well, Txiki Begiristain seems intensely focused on Argentinian wonderkids right now.

There are a lot of rumours swirling around about River Plate No.19 and Argentina Under-17 international Claudio Echeverri, who Manchester City are apparently leading the race to sign and are confident of getting a deal done.

Now, the treble winners have been described as the favourites to sign another Argentinian prodigy in Barco.

RN believe Boca Juniors are now resigned to losing the 19-year-old.

Those in the boardroom hope to sell Barco in a straight sale and receive his €10m (£9m) release clause all in one lump sum, rather than staggered payments – something Manchester City can surely afford to do.

RN also mention Manchester City’s interest in Echeverri, and state that the Citizens are coming for “everything” in Argentina to emphasise Begiristain’s activity in this part of South America.

River Plate also have two more gems – Ian Subiabre and Agustin Ruberto – who Manchester City are optimistic about signing, according to 90min.

Valentin Barco could play in two positions for Manchester City

If Manchester City get this deal over the line, Barco could cover two positions for Pep Guardiola.

The Boca Juniors No.19 is primarily a left-back who boasts immense technical ability, and tends to make an impact going forward.

However – as many can do nowadays – Barco can also slot into an inverted midfield role, as we have seen the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Kyle Walker and Rico Lewis do.

With Kalvin Phillips potentially leaving the Etihad Stadium next month, the teenager may even be seen as someone who can step into the England international’s place – be sure to keep an eye on this situation.
