Manchester City currently find themselves at risk of seeing Pep Guardiola leave the club in the summer.

As things stand, the 53-year-old’s contract at the Etihad Stadium is set to expire in June.

Meaning, this current season could be Guardiola’s final one at the Manchester club unless he puts pen to paper on another extension.

Just before the season started, Guardiola said that he’d love to extend his contract at City, but isn’t likely to spend another eight years at the Manchester club.

Now in the midst of his ninth season in charge of the Blues, a recent report has emerged containing some behind-the-scenes details on what sort of contract City could look to offer the 53-year-old in an effort to keep him at the Etihad beyond this campaign.

Man City could offer Guardiola a rolling contract

Off the back of a recent article from The Times claiming that the FA had sounded out Guardiola as a top target to be the next England manager, a report from talkSPORT said this on the situation concerning the City boss.

It said: “The Spaniard was sounded out about the England job at the start of this season and has not ruled himself out of the running with his Man City contract expiring next summer.

“However, talkSPORT understands City are relaxed about the FA’s approach and are willing to hand Guardiola a rolling contract whereby he can extend his deal a year at a time.”

Guardiola shared ‘promise’ on Man City future

During the latest international break, Guardiola said this about the England position and his City future in general.

He said: “It’s not true [becoming the next England boss], I can promise you that had I made a decision on whether to stay or to leave [Manchester City], I would tell you. I don’t even know. But anything can happen in life.”

Since taking charge of the Citizens back in 2016, the Catalan has gone on to overlook 483 matches across all competitions, winning 357, drawing 66 and losing 66.

In terms of the titles Guardiola has guided the club to since his arrival, City have lifted six Premier Leagues, one Champions League, two FA Cups and four League Cups as well as the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA SuperCup.

Given how successful the 53-year-old has been during his extensive time in England in terms of winning trophies with City, it’d be safe to assume that everyone at the club would be delighted to see Guardiola extend his stay, even if it was by signing a rolling contract.
