Manchester United now want to sign Manchester City target Takefusa Kubo as a replacement for Antony.

That is according to Mundo Deportivo Gipuzkoa.

So, what is the latest on Manchester City target Takefusa Kubo? Let’s take a look…

Manchester City face competition for Kubo

Well – according to a separate story from Mundo Deportivo – Manchester City are keen to sign the Japan international following a string of excellent performances for Real Sociedad.

Now – however – Mundo Deportivo Gipuzkoa believe Manchester United have joined the race to sign Kubo, who has been compared to David Silva.

The Spanish news outlet state that Manchester City’s struggling neighbours are hoping to bring the Real Sociedad No.14 to Old Trafford as a replacement for Antony, who has suffered a miserable run since his £86m move from Ajax.

In 62 appearances for Manchester United, the Brazil international has scored just eight goals.

Mundo Deportivo Gipuzkoa add that Real Sociedad will refer any interested parties to Kubo’s €60m (£52m) release clause.

The Spanish news outlet add that Real Madrid are also admirers of the Japanese wonderkid, who they actually sold to Real Sociedad in July 2022.

Manchester City surely favourites to sign Kubo ahead of Manchester United

Why would any flourishing footballer want to join Manchester United right now?

Just look at Rasmus Hojlund – who was blossoming into one of Europe’s finest strikers before the Red Devils evaporated his confidence.

Not only that, but in a financial sense as well, Manchester City can surely tempt the 22-year-old with more attractive personal terms.

Any deal to sign Kubo – who has also been compared to Jude Bellingham – may have to wait, however, as Mundo Deportivo believe he is currently content with life in San Sebastien.

Nevertheless, be sure to keep an eye on the situation, as anything could happen at Manchester City in 2024.
