Nedum Onuoha says £225,000-a-week star is definitely one of Man City’s most technical players

Nedum Onuoha has said that Phil Foden is one of the most technically gifted players at Manchester City.

The pundit gave his view on Foden’s technique after it was claimed that he is the club’s most technically proficient player on the Official Man City Podcast featuring the Englishman himself.

After the Sky Blues beat RB Leipzig 3-1 in the Champions League, Nicolas Seiwald hailed the 23-year-old as “technically sublime.”

Described as “world-class” by former Southampton boss Nathan Jones, the £225,000-a-week (Sport Rac) man has always been famed for having a textbook technical base.

Perhaps this is why the treble-winner has been dubbed as the “Stockport Iniesta” from a young age.

Nedum Onuoha has now praised the technical genius of Manchester City attacker Phil Foden.

“I don’t necessarily disagree [with Phil Foden being Manchester City’s most technically gifted player] because some of the stuff he does and the way he does it is very specific to him. Even the way he controls it, he runs with it, it’s like it’s stuck to his foot. And there aren’t many players that have that, especially with the dynamism that he has”, he said on the Official Man City Podcast.

Onuoha added, “There’s no way he’s played on the same streets that I did and I ended up like I did and he’s flipping one of the best things I’ve ever seen in the world ever! He must have been somewhere else, he must’ve been in a lab because he’s technically amazing.”

It is a close call between Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva

Nedum Onuoha is correct when emphasising that he does not necessarily disagree with the sentiment that Phil Foden may be the most technically gifted player Manchester City have in their ranks.

But in our view, if there is another player who rivals him or even potentially surpasses him technically, it is Bernardo Silva.

Much like Phil Foden, the Portuguese maestro’s first touch, passing, how he receives the ball and strikes it can be considered flawless.

In May last year, Kyle Walker named Bernardo Silva as one of Manchester City’s three most technically brilliant players alongside former teammates like Riyad Mahrez and Oleksandr Zinchenko during an episode of YouTube show, Tea With Timbsy.

As a result, it is a hard call to decide whether Phil Foden is yet to have surpassed him in this department.

But considering how special a technician Foden already is, he could surpass Bernardo Silva by the time he reaches his age.
