“Of course”… Micah Richards unsurprised by what Gary Lineker told him about £169m Manchester City player

Micah Richards has now reacted after Gary Lineker shared an interesting fact about Manchester City No.47 Phil Foden.

The discussion took place on The Rest Is Football podcast – with Alan Shearer also in attendance.

So, what was said about Phil Foden? Let’s take a look…

What Richards said about Foden

Well, Lineker challenged Richards and Shearer to a guessing game after obtaining a list of the ten most valuable footballers on the planet.

Both – wrongly – named Erling Haaland at number one, with the Norway international actually second behind Jude Bellingham, who is apparently trying to lure the Manchester City No.9 to Madrid.

When Richards eventually guessed Foden, and Lineker told him the City Football Academy graduate is sixth on the list, the 35-year-old was not surprised.

He said: “Of course he is in there!”

Lineker was reading a new valuation report from the CIES Football Observatory – which states that Foden is currently worth €195.8m (£169m).

Haaland is second with a valuation of €251.2m (£216m) while Julian Alvarez is the only other Manchester City player in the top ten.

The Argentina international sits eighth with a valuation of €164.7m (£141.7m) – a huge increase on the £14.1m Manchester City spent to sign him from River Plate.

Foden, Haaland and Alvarez valuations reflect very well on Manchester City

These valuations show just how well Txiki Begiristain has recruited for Manchester City.

As aforesaid, Alvarez cost just £14.1m, while Haaland was signed in a £51m deal from Borussia Dortmund.

Putting Foden aside for now – as he was a product of the City Football Academy – Manchester City stand to make a huge profit if the club ever chose to sell Haaland and Alvarez.

The attacking duo are valued at a combined £357.7m – which is £292.6m more than the initial £65.1m invested in their signatures.

That goes without mentioning the shrewd signings of transformative figures such as Rodri and Ruben Dias as well – Begiristain, take a bow.
