The competition for places at Manchester City is set to intensify during the 2025/26 campaign.

Pep Guardiola is currently rebuilding his squad ahead of the new season, with midfield being at the heart of the changes at the Etihad Stadium following a tough 2024/25 campaign in which the Spanish coach’s side ended the term without a trophy.

Everything is in place for Man City to officially announce the signing of Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan, with Guardiola also very keen to add Lyon’s Rayan Cherki to his ranks, which is growing closer.

The arrival of Cherki is set to cause Oscar Bobb problems, given that the duo play in similar positions, and the Norwegian star has now opened up about his Man City future, revealing how he feels ahead of the new season.

Oscar Bobb wants to play regularly at Man City

Bobb impressed during pre-season for Man City last summer, and coming off the back of a breakthrough 23/24 campaign, fans of the Manchester club were very excited to see what the 21-year-old would bring to their team during the season just gone.

However, disaster would strike for the attacking midfielder, as early on in the campaign, the youngster would break his leg in training, with Bobb only returning to Premier League action in April.

This has unfortunately cast doubt over his short-term future at Man City as there is talk that the Norway international could be sent out on loan; however, Bobb plans to remain at the Etihad Stadium and fight for his place.

“Everyone wants to play regularly every week. I wouldn’t have said I wanted to stay at City if I didn’t think it was possible,” Bobb has told Norwegian outlet Nettavisan.

This is an attitude Man City fans will admire, but there is still a chance the midfielder could leave, and Tim Sherwood hopes Bobb is not sold over the coming weeks.

Oscar Bobb should open up to leaving Man City on loan

Bobb featured four times for Man City last season as a result of his injury, and having been out for so long, the Manchester club are currently easing the 21-year-old back into action ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Pre-season is going to be huge for Bobb this summer, as the Norwegian will really need to impress Guardiola if he is to earn a place in the legendary coach’s team ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, but with Cherki arriving, that has already become a difficult task.

The best the youngster can hope for is a rotation role at the Etihad Stadium, but given his age and missing the majority of last season, a loan move would be very beneficial to the Man City star in order to develop.

Bobb has shown that he is Premier League quality; therefore, a club in the English top flight would be the best option for the midfielder.

One of the newly promoted teams would love to have the Man City star as part of their squad for the 2025/26 campaign, while others, such as Brentford, might consider a move for the 21-year-old, seeing as they could lose Bryan Mbeumo over the coming weeks.

Man City will not want to lose Bobb permanently unless they are fully sure he won’t make it at the Manchester club, and a loan move this summer would be very beneficial for all involved.
