Manchester City are back in action Friday night as they host Wolves at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s team are in an impressive run of form as City are unbeaten in eight games and having beaten Aston Villa last week, thanks to a late Matheus Nunes goal, the Manchester club have put themselves in a strong position to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Wolves have been in great form of their own as Vitor Pereira’s side are also undefeated in eight games, and having won six in a row, the Midlands club look to be Man City’s toughest opponents between now and the end of the campaign.

Pundit Paul Merson is expecting Man City to face a tough night at the Etihad against Wolves and has predicted a ‘narrow’ scoreline to play out.

Paul Merson predicts Man City vs Wolves

Erling Haaland remains a doubt for Man City heading in Friday night’s contest with Wolves with the Norwegian star not expected to feature for the Manchester club.

The 24-year-old is one of several stars that remain absent from Guardiola’s squad, although the City boss confirmed on Thursday that Ederson is being considered for selection.

This hasn’t affected Man City too much in recent weeks and it is why Merson is predicting the Manchester club to beat Wolves 2-1 on Friday night.

“This is a huge game,” Merson told Sportskeeda. “I know Manchester City got an important win over Nottingham Forest to reach the FA Cup final last weekend. It was 2-0 but you and I know that the old City would have won that game 5-0. That edge is still missing from this team in my opinion.

“Wolves travel to the Etihad with nothing to lose. They have won six games on the bounce and are now 13th in the table.

“What an incredible turnaround for them in recent weeks! I believe this will be a really difficult game for Man City. I’m still backing City to get the win here, albeit by a narrow margin.”

Pep Guardiola’s Man City record against Wolves

Man City got away with many things when they last faced Wolves in the Premier League back in October as Guardiola’s team required a 95th-minute winner from John Stones to secure all three points.

Wolves were a very different team back then as Gary O’Neil’s side looked like they would be fighting relegation this season before Pereira came in a turned things around.

Man City can expect a tough game from Wolves, but Guardiola will not fear the Molineux outfit as the Spaniard has a strong record against them, having won 10 of his 14 contests, drawing one, and losing the other three.

The Man City boss has averaged 2.21 points against Wolves since moving to Manchester in 2016 and he will hope to increase it on Friday night.
