Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola hailed Julian Alvarez after his late winner against RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

In an interview with TNT Sports (28/11/2023), the Catalan tactician lauded several of his players’ displays before he gave a special mention to Alvarez.

The 23-year-old has been the man with the Midas touch on various occasions for Pep Guardiola’s men this campaign and once again, he capped off his side’s valiant comeback with a predatory finish inside the box.

After the clash, Phil Foden commended the Argentine striker for having a “brilliant season” so far.

Frank Leboeuf once went as far as to say that he believes the World Cup winner has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or one day, which shows how much he has impressed since signing for the Sky Blues.

As Manchester City walked away with a 3-2 win against RB Leipzig, Pep Guardiola heralded the game-changer on the night, Julian Alvarez.

“Julian [Alvarez], always, close to the box is a special player because he’s a guy who’s there to score the goals, to make an assist”, Guardiola told TNT Sports.

“And Phil [Foden], Julian and Erling [Haaland], these three guys have an incredible sense of goal. They have it.”

Such frantic game-states suit Julian Alvarez to a tee

Pep Guardiola is spot on as Manchester City frontman Julian Alvarez showcased against RB Leipzig, as he has in a number of games this campaign that he is a threat in and around the box.

In our view, assessing Alvarez’s profile, a takeaway from his heroics against Marco Rose’s side is that he is tailor-made for such end-to-end games.

The former River Plate talisman thrives as he has the space, both inside and outside the box to score and create goals.

Often, against low-blocks, due to Julian Alvarez not being a natural attacking midfielder, he tends to struggle to find the room to be at his lethal best.

But perhaps this very reason explains why Alvarez has been instrumental in high-octane Champions League affairs for City this season.
