Manchester City technician Phil Foden lauded Julian Alvarez for the incredible season he is having after his 87th-minute winner against RB Leipzig on Tuesday night.

In a post-match interview with TNT Sports (28/11/2023) the 23-year-old was quizzed about Alvarez’s impact after he came off the bench and eventually led City to a 3-2 victory in the Champions League.

With eight goals and six assists in all competitions for the World Cup winner this campaign, it is hard to disagree with Phil Foden’s assessment.

Phil Foden says Julian Alvarez is having a “brilliant season” after Manchester City beat RB Leipzig

The £100,000-a-week (Sport Rac) man has rightly been getting a lot of praise, with Peter Crouch saying that he “walks into any other Premier League team”.

Fabrizio Romano claimed in late October that even those within the Sky Blues camp were extremely satisfied with the Argentine’s attitude.

After Phil Foden spearheaded an epic comeback from Manchester City against RB Leipzig in the Champions League, he was also full of praise for Julian Alvarez.

“You know Julian’s a great player and he’s always a threat when he comes off the bench. He’s a fantastic player and he always makes a difference for us. He’s having a brilliant season and he’s important for us”, Foden told TNT Sports.

Julian Alvarez has been one of the best players in the Champions League this season

Phil Foden is right to have lauded Julian Alvarez, who got on the end of a deflected pass from him to fire Manchester City into the lead against RB Leipzig.

The former River Plate striker has been thriving in the Champions League, as he is currently the competition’s joint second-highest goalscorer.

The 23-year-old has come up clutch for the treble-winners in Europe’s elite competition time and again.

Against Red Star Belgrade, Alvarez scored a key equaliser before bagging the winner, which eventually led to a 3-1 win.

While up against RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena in October, Julian Alvarez was brought on as a substitute, as he went on to score a winner in the 84th minute as well as assisting Jeremy Doku’s strike.

The versatile forward is having a terrific campaign but in Europe, he has been genuinely unstoppable.
