Manchester City travel to Huddersfield Town on Wednesday night with Pep Guardiola looking to avoid something that has not happened at the Manchester club since 2018.
City take on the League One club in the third round of the Carabao Cup, a competition Guardiola has not won since the 2020/21 season, but it is a tournament the legendary coach has admitted will play second fiddle to the Premier League and Champions League at this stage of the season.
Guardiola has revealed that Man City will be without Abdukodir Khusanov for the contest, and the defender will not be the only big star missing, as Erling Haaland is not expected to play any part in Wednesday night’s match.
It remains to be seen how this will impact City, as the Manchester club will be looking to avoid an outcome they have not experienced since 2018.

Man City have not lost to a League One team since 2018
Man City have rarely lost to a League One team during the Guardiola era at the Premier League club, with the last time that happened coming in 2018.
In the fifth round of the FA Cup, City were stunned when they were beaten 1-0 by Wigan, courtesy of a Will Grigg goal, which ended the hopes of Guardiola’s team winning a quadruple at the time.
The result was severely impacted by Fabian Delph, who was controversially sent off at the end of the first half for a high tackle on Max Power, which left City competing with 10 men for the majority of the contest.
This is an outcome Guardiola will be looking to avoid on Wednesday night, as Man City’s start to the season has already been very mixed, and they do not need any negativity impacting the positive run of form they are on.
Man City’s record against Huddersfield Town
Manchester City’s last meeting with Huddersfield came just last year as Guardiola’s men hammered the League One side 5-0 in the FA Cup. Phil Foden scored a brace in the contest and was described as being unplayable on the day by The Terriers’ manager.
Guardiola will play a changed side against Huddersfield on Wednesday night, but the League One side should not be underestimated, as City have a mixed record against their next opponents.
Man City have played Huddersfield on 81 occasions, winning 29, drawing 30, and losing 22. The Manchester club have won four out of the last five games they have faced The Terriers and will be expected to add to this record on Wednesday night.
