Manchester City are no different to any club in the sense that in every transfer window, they would have a list of targets in mind.
However, Pep Guardiola’s men follow the usual process of signing the player in question who fits their style of play the most, solves a flaw in their squad and is as cost-effective as can be.
This summer, Manchester City chose not to sign Morgan Gibbs-White because they believed that he was far too expensive at £70 million.
At one point, Gibbs-White was expected to join Manchester City by his teammates at Nottingham Forest, which shows how quickly things can change in football.
Allan Saint-Maximin admits Man City tried signing him at Newcastle
Similarly, Manchester City were keen on signing Declan Rice in 2023.
However, Manchester City chose not to sign Rice and gave Arsenal a free run at snapping the midfielder up.
Speaking to YouTuber Zack Nani, Allan Saint-Maximin revealed that during his time at Newcastle United, City were interested in his signature: “We were fighting relegation at the time. I had a lot of offers — and in terms of my career and development, leaving might’ve been the smarter choice.”
However, Saint-Maximin revealed he rejected a move to Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United to help Newcastle when they were battling relegation: “But I didn’t want to abandon them. I stayed until the end. I stayed loyal. City, Arsenal, and United were all interested.”
Man City now about to sign Newcastle United teenager
The Frenchman, who the Magpies sold to Al-Ahli for £23 million (Sky Sports) was one of the Premier League’s most entertaining players during his time at St. James’ Park.
Perhaps Manchester City felt that in Saint-Maximin, they could turn one of the league’s best dribblers into a truly elite winger.

However, ultimately, the former Saint-Etienne forward ended up making a move to the Saudi Pro League and currently, he is on loan at Fenerbahce.
Manchester City are set to sign Ethan Fullen, a 15-year-old youngster from Newcastle now and perhaps the impending move could mean the two clubs do more business over the years.
