Premier League owner now wants to see his £60m star man play for Manchester City

Manchester City are not done in the 2025 summer transfer market.

Pep Guardiola has seen five new faces added to his squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign getting underway next month, and although outgoings are the Manchester club’s main focus at present, two new arrivals could also take place.

Man City will sign James Trafford if Ederson leaves the Etihad Stadium over the coming weeks, while Fabrizio Romano thinks a right-back could be on the way to City, although that search has been unsuccessful so far.

One Premier League star has been linked to Manchester all summer, and the owner of his club has now told the English giants to come and get his £60m star man.

Nottingham Forest owner wants Morgan Gibbs-White to join Man City

It looked at one point this summer that Morgan Gibbs-White was certain to move to Man City; however, the Manchester club would opt to sign Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders instead.

This opened up the path for Tottenham to sign the midfielder, and having agreed everything related to the £60m deal, Nottingham Forest complained about Spurs as they believe the North London club made an illegal approach to sign their star player.

That dispute has yet to be resolved, and as a result, talkSPORT are now reporting that Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is hoping Manchester City come in with a rival bid to sign Gibbs-White, as Tottenham have clearly annoyed the Greek owner.

The report states that the Englishman told Marinakis at the end of last season that he would only leave the City Ground for a certain level of club, and the Forest owner does not believe Spurs fit that category, hence his fury over his potential move to North London.

Man City wanted to sign multiple stars over paying a large fee for Gibbs-White, and having already made that decision, it is very unlikely that Guardiola will return for the midfielder this summer.

Morgan Gibbs-White left out of Nottingham Forest’s pre-season squad

If Man City still have some interest in signing Gibbs-White this summer, now would be the perfect time to move for the 25-year-old as the midfielder has not travelled with the Nottingham Forest squad for their pre-season training camp in Portugal because of a private matter, reports Sky Sports.

It is uncertain if this has anything to do with the uncertainty over his future at the City Ground, as it looks very likely that the England star will leave Forest one way or another over the coming weeks.

Gibbs-White would have been a great addition to Guardiola’s squad, but that ship has sailed, as the legendary coach has other key areas that need addressing before he even thinks about a move for Forest’s main man.
