Manchester City might be busier than they initially expected over the remainder of the summer transfer window.

The Premier League giants are keen to trim down Pep Guardiola’s squad before the 25/26 campaign gets underway next month.

On Friday, Galatasaray made their interest clear in two City stars, whom the Manchester club are open to offers for.

Galatasaray have enquired about the situation of Manuel Akanji, while the Turkish club also submitted an official proposal for Ederson.

Galatasaray’s bid for Ederson was just £2.5m, and with doubt surrounding the future of the Brazilian, Man City have started to make moves of their own.

Man City approach Burnley for James Trafford

Fabrizio Romano reported on Friday that Man City are considering a move for James Trafford should one of their two goalkeepers leave this summer, and with several clubs interested in Ederson, this deal looks like a possibility.

Sky Sports are now reporting that the Manchester club have already approached Burnley for their goalkeeper, but it is believed that City want to negotiate on the £40m buy-back clause they have on Trafford, whom they sold to the Clarets in 2023.

It remains to be seen if Burnley are willing to do this, as Newcastle are also keen on the Englishman and might be willing to match that fee, which would give them a big advantage.

Trafford never played for Man City’s senior team during his time at the Manchester club, and a return to the Etihad Stadium will likely intrigue him, as he will feel that he has unfinished business.

Should Burnley accept Trafford’s exit, the Clarets don’t plan on going far for his replacement, as Stefan Ortega is an option for the newly-promoted Premier League club.

Burnley are interested in Stefan Ortega

Man City and Burnley have a good relationship after the Manchester club allowed Kyle Walker to move to Turf Moor for a small fee this summer.

This could help them in their pursuit of Trafford, and if City successfully land the 22-year-old, Burnley are keen on Ortega, but have made no approach for the German goalkeeper, Ben Jacobs reports.

Man City are unlikely to sanction the exits of both of their goalkeepers, which makes this situation interesting, as it is not quite clear who Trafford would be replacing.

John Stones described Ortega as “incredible” after his performance against Liverpool during the 23/24 season, and the 32-year-old would be a great player for Trafford to learn from.

This situation heavily relies on what happens to Ederson, as it is unclear how hard Galatasaray are ready to push for the Brazilian star.
