Pundit shares what he’s heard about Man City’s signing of Erling Haaland

Manchester City have made some big signings since Pep Guardiola took charge of the club.

One of the most notable transfer deals City have made in recent years is their £51m move for Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund back in the 2022 summer transfer window.

Since joining the Blues, the striker has bagged 97 goals in 102 appearances across all competitions, winning multiple team trophies and individual awards along the way.

Having got his latest season off to a flying start by scoring seven goals in his first three Premier League games, Haaland has now found himself being spoken about by a pundit who has made a rather interesting claim about what happened at City before they chose to sign him.

Darren Bent makes a claim about how Pep Guardiola felt about Man City signing Erling Haaland

On the subject of whether transfer moves are decided by managers or people above the managers at clubs, Darren Bent had this to say about City’s move for Haaland in a recent video shared on the talkSPORT YouTube channel.

He said: “I don’t know whether it’s true or not, well actually I know it’s true. 100% it’s true.

“Pep needed convincing to sign Haaland. Like a power play, this is what he can do, look what he can do.”

Haaland’s goalscoring ability speaks for itself

After seeing the 24-year-old score his second hat-trick of the campaign against West Ham United, Ian Wright claimed that Haaland could reach Cristiano Ronaldo’s goalscoring level if he continues in the form he’s in now.

Prior to his move to City, the Norway international found the back of the net 86 times in 89 games for Dortmund.

So if what Bent has claimed is true and Guardiola needed to be convince by those above him at City to sign Haaland, he surely wouldn’t have needed convincing about Haaland’s goalscoring ability.
