It has been reported that Manchester City are ready to locks horns with Liverpool to complete a transfer for Alexis Mac Allister.

This comes from a report by the Mirror, after it was reported two weeks ago that the players at Brighton & Hove Albion were openly discussing his move to Anfield.

While it seemed as if Alexis Mac Allister was set to sign for Liverpool, Manchester City are unwilling to surrender in their pursuit of his services.

Manchester City ready for transfer tug-of-war with Liverpool over Alexis Mac Allister

The Argentine, whose style of play has been likened to Ilkay Gundogan by many has been one of the Premier League’s best midfielders this season.

With City looking like they have missed out on Jude Bellingham, it seems as if they are extremely keen on signing a high-quality alternative for him.

It has now been claimed that Manchester City are ‘ready’ to go head-to-head with Liverpool to sign Alexis Mac Allister.

In addition, Pep Guardiola believes that the World Cup winner is the ‘ideal replacement’ for both Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva, who could both leave next season.

With Gundogan set to become a free agent in the summer and Bernardo edging an exit for the past couple of seasons, it seems likely that one of the pair will play their football elsewhere next campaign.

A move for Alexis Mac Allister should divide opinion and rightly so

As brilliant as Alexis Mac Allister is, he is a lot more ready to start for Liverpool than Manchester City.

The biggest strength in any Pep Guardiola side is its midfield, an area of the pitch that the Sky Blues have had an embarrassment of riches in over the years.

With Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva being such absurdly complete and multifaceted midfielders, Alexis Mac Allister may have a hard time replacing either if he joins the Premier League champions.

Furthermore, it could take the 24-year-old a season to adapt to Guardiola’s ways.

As a result, while Mac Allister’s potential arrival should excite City fans, there is an equal number of reasons to be concerned even if he snubs the Reds for a move to the Etihad Stadium.
