It has been reported that Manchester City have tried to complete an audacious transfer for Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde.

This comes from teamTALK after Ilkay Gundogan was reported to have been ‘close to saying yes’ to a move to Barcelona on Monday and Bernardo Silva admitted to being undecided on his future.

It seems Manchester City eyed Federico Valverde as the perfect succession plan for either of the midfielders.

Branded as ‘unplayable’ by FIFA’s official website, the Uruguayan international is one of the best players in the world in his position.

With either or even both of Ilkay Gundogan or Bernardo Silva potentially leaving City this summer, the midfield is an area that the club may have to address.

As a result, it was revealed that Manchester City indeed ‘made enquiries’ to sign Federico Valverde from Real Madrid.

While Chelsea and Liverpool also did the same, all the English suitors were informed that he has no intentions to leave Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Federico Valverde would have been a dream to watch in sky blue

Unsurprisingly so, as at 24 years of age, Los Blancos would rather be looking to build their midfield around the dynamic attacker and Jude Bellingham for the future.

It cannot be denied that the sight of Federico Valverde in a Manchester City shirt would have been one to behold.

Much like Kevin De Bruyne, the former Penarol midfielder is also unstoppable when carrying the ball at full speed.

Possessing an engine similar to Bernardo Silva and an eye for goal like Ilkay Gundogan, he would likely have hit new heights under Pep Guardiola.

But unfortunately for the treble winners, Valverde seemingly has no intentions to bid farewell to the Spanish juggernaut anytime soon.

The Sky Blues will have to look elsewhere in their pursuit to replace either of Gundogan or Bernardo ahead of next season.
